Theodor is the Pinot Noir cru of the Monastero di Aquileia estate — produced from the Vigna del Bosco vineyard, a specific plot within the estate whose name suggests a position on the forested edge of the larger agricultural landscape. It is the most delicate and most demanding wine in the estate's red wine range: Pinot Noir, the world's most geographically sensitive red variety, produced from a single vineyard of specific character on the Friuli Aquileia estate's mineral-rich clay soils.
The one hundred and thirty hectares of the Monastero di Aquileia estate — sixty under vine, positioned just a few kilometres from the Carnic Alps and a stone's throw from the Grado lagoon — contain within their landscape plots of widely varying character, and the Vigna del Bosco represents one of the estate's most carefully identified and most specifically managed of these. Its specific position, exposure, and soil profile produce a Pinot Noir of character that the estate has deemed worthy of individual designation.
Ruby red in colour — the luminous, transparent ruby that marks Pinot Noir at its most delicately expressive — with typical red-fruit notes of raspberry on the nose, alongside hints of violet and black pepper that are among the variety's most characteristic and most appealing aromatic signatures. Full, complex, and satisfying on the palate: the Friuli Aquileia terroir's bora winds, salt-laden lagoon breezes, and mineral-rich clay giving the Pinot Noir a freshness and a mineral definition that the variety achieves best in cool, well-ventilated conditions.
Theodor is the wine for the most attentive and the most curious tasters in the UniqueWines clientele — those who appreciate the particular delicacy and complexity of great Pinot Noir in an Italian context of genuine distinction.
