The Pinot Grigio of Setteanime occupies a specific and interesting position in the portfolio of an estate whose most celebrated wine is the ancient Raboso — it is the vine that has adapted well to production in the north-east territories of Italy, varying its characteristics according to latitude, and which at Setteanime's specific Piave area location develops a character distinct from more northerly Alpine expressions of the same variety.
Pinot Grigio is described by the estate as a rather complex vine requiring particular care in cultivation and vinification at controlled temperature of eighteen degrees Celsius. This temperature precision — lower than many white wine fermentations — is the key technical decision for capturing the variety's most delicate aromatic compounds, which are easily lost to higher fermentation temperatures. The estate's commitment to this controlled approach reflects the same care for quality that characterises all its productions, from the prosecco to the Raboso.
The alluvial soils of the Venice-Piave area — the stony loam and sand that drain freely and give white wines of excellent aroma and a grade of salinity — provide the mineral foundation for this Pinot Grigio, giving it a character of gentle freshness and mineral precision rather than the heavy, phenolic style that sometimes results from less careful handling of this versatile variety.
The wine is sweet, full-flavoured in nature with a natural soft and balanced taste — the estate's characterisation of a white wine of genuine approachability and genuine quality. Between the Venice lagoon and the Treviso hills, the Setteanime Pinot Grigio tells its own Venetian story.
