Bramito is the champion wine of the Retica estate — the absolute peak of the range, the wine created with one end goal: to be among the best in the world. In making Bramito, the winemakers feel like an artist in front of a block of marble: they know that within it lies a work of art to be discovered. The name itself — Bramito, the rutting call of the deer that fills the Valtellina woods during the September-October harvest season — is a declaration of the season's intensity, of the wild beauty of the landscape in which this wine is made, and of the passionate commitment that its production demands.
The Retica estate's philosophy — romantic winemaking far from market trends, convinced that the Valtellina Nebbiolo deserves the relentless pursuit of perfection — finds its absolute expression in Bramito. From the 50-year minimum old vines of the Grumello and Inferno subzones, from hand-selected bunches harvested strictly by hand during the most intense weeks of the harvest season when the forest echoes with the calls of deer, the best possible raw material is gathered. This raw material then ages for twelve months in French oak — not the Slavonian oak of the Baloss, but the more precisely structured influence of French wood, chosen for the champion wine to develop a particular layer of integration and aromatic refinement.
Ruby red with great intensity and breadth on the nose; floral nuances and good body supported by lively and subtle acidity: Bramito presents with the same structural qualities as Baloss but with the additional dimension of French oak's specific contribution — the wine that comes from the best selection, aged in the most appropriate vessel for its ambition, representing the estate's highest aspiration made real.
Bramito is a wine available through UniqueWines in the most strictly limited quantities from one of the Valtellina's most principled and most committed artisan producers.
