The Fiano del Molise of Tenute Martarosa is the estate's white wine counterpart to the Tintilia — and it represents the less expected dimension of Molise's viticultural identity, since the Fiano grape is more commonly associated with its DOCG expression in Irpinia or its DOP in the Cilento. In the Molise context, however, the Fiano develops its own specific character — shaped by the Molise highland climate, the organic farming philosophy of the estate, and the particular mineral character of a region whose agricultural landscape remains relatively undisturbed by the intensive farming practices of more commercially developed areas.
The production process follows a protocol of patience and precision. The wine refines with its own lees for at least six months — a period of autolytic contact that develops complexity, texture, and the particular richness that lees ageing reliably imparts to white wines of genuine ambition. At least three months in bottle follow before release, ensuring that the wine's aromatic profile has integrated fully.
The Fiano del Molise presents with the characteristic aromatic profile of the grape in a highland, cool-climate expression: notes of white flowers, white peach, and sage — the sage note being particularly specific to the Molise expression of the variety, reflecting both the grape's aromatic character and the herbal richness of the Molise landscape. The wine expresses freshness, balance, and minerality — the three qualities that the estate identifies as its defining characteristics, and that reflect the specific contribution of organic highland viticulture to a variety naturally inclined toward freshness and structure.
Fiano del Molise is a wine of quiet distinction — less immediately showy than some of the more celebrated Fiano expressions, but more mineral, more specific, and more genuinely expressive of its particular origin.
