The Malvasia Bianca of the L'Astore estate is produced from the Malvasia Bianca Antica — one of the most genuinely rare varieties in the estate's ampelographic collection, and a grape whose preservation reflects the same commitment to Salento's indigenous viticultural heritage that characterises every aspect of the L'Astore project. Michele and Pierluigi Travaglini have maintained this variety through a period when many producers abandoned ancient indigenous whites in favour of more commercially reliable varieties.

The wine presents with a golden yellow colour of warmth and depth — the colour of a white of genuine body and aromatic concentration. The nose is flooded with exotic, fruity, and floral scents: acacia flowers, broom, lavender, honey, oregano, and tangerine arrive in a bouquet of unusual breadth and southern Italian warmth. The aromatic profile is one of the most immediately distinctive in the white wine section of the UniqueWines catalogue — a profile so specific to its variety and its territory that it is immediately recognisable as something singular.

The Malvasia Bianca Antica skin maceration process is managed to allow the wine to intensify the typical aroma of its variety without developing excessive tannin — a careful calibration that results in the golden colour and the particular textural richness that distinguishes this wine from more conventional white wine production.

On the palate, sapidity and minerality are well expressed and in perfect balance — a quality that reflects both the organic farming of the estate and the specific mineral contribution of the Salento coastal terroir. The palate is persuasive, enveloping, and rightly acid — qualities that give the wine genuine food-pairing authority — with a light veil of tannin that makes each sip greedy and balanced at the same time. Long, persistent, and frankly satisfying.
