Fiore Clastico is one of the most precisely conceived wines in the UniqueWines portfolio — a limited edition of 2,093 individually numbered bottles, produced from Pallagrello Bianco (85%) and Falanghina (15%) from the Ventaglio vineyard in Castel Campagnano, where the sandstone and clastic stones that give the wine its name are visible in the very soil that the vines penetrate. The flower of grapes grown among sandstone and beautiful clastic stones — that is what the name declares, and the wine makes good on the declaration.
Laboris Catrame occupies a plateau a few kilometres from the Palace of Caserta, in a natural amphitheatre formed between the volcano of Roccamonfina to the northwest and Vesuvius to the southeast — a geological theatre of volcanic and alluvial origin whose soils alternate tufa, sandy banks, clastic rocks, sandstone, and clay in a rhythmic succession that gives wines of unusual mineral complexity. The Ventaglio vineyard sits within this landscape with the particular character of its sandstone and clastic components.
The vinification is carried out entirely in whole clusters — a choice that preserves the green reflections characteristic of this wine's brilliant, clear appearance and contributes a particular aromatic freshness that destemmed fermentation cannot achieve. The production process is described as ethical and sustainable throughout, a completely handmade product aimed at high quality from the first step to the last.
On the nose, the intense odorous molecules of this wine are captured by the olfactory epithelium and processed in a complex range of aromas typical of small white flowers — lime and broom — accompanied by pleasant citrus sensations.
