IANAI

IANAI is a wine of absolute singularity — the sole production of Fabrizio Sepe's biodynamic artisanal winery in Matelica, expressing the Verdicchio di Matelica appellation's most mineral and most complex register through a production protocol of uncommon precision and commitment. One wine. One winemaker. One cru of fifty-year-old vines. The equation is both simple and demanding.

Matelica occupies a specific position within the Marche region's Verdicchio territory — at high Apennine altitude, its wines are richer in minerals and longer in their capacity to age than those of the better-known Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi. The Balzani cru vineyard from which IANAI is produced contains vines aged over fifty years — a depth of root and soil interaction that only decades of viticulture can produce, and that expresses itself directly in the wine's aromatic complexity and palatal depth.

The artisanal biodynamic production process that Fabrizio Sepe applies to this wine is one of meticulous detail: manual selection of grapes, pressing inertised with nitrogen to prevent oxidation from the first moment, cold decantation, and cryo-fermentation — a low-temperature fermentation that preserves the most delicate and most volatile aromatic compounds of the Verdicchio grape. After vinification, the wine ages for six months in stainless steel on the noble fine lees, then completes its development in bottle in a cellar at controlled temperature.

The resulting wine presents straw yellow with greenish reflections. The nose emerges through its complex fruitiness of ripe exotic fruit and almond, alongside the vegetable puffs of glycine flowers, with a toast fragrance contrasted by savoury personality — good persistence and excellent balance, for a rich taste characterised by a finish of vegetable notes from Mediterranean scrub.
