The Taurasi DOCG of Fratelli Addimanda is the wine that encapsulates the family's full commitment to the Irpinia terroir and to the Aglianico grape at its most ambitious and most complete expression. Each bottle carries the history of the Irpinia terroir through generations of the Addimanda family — of Gianluigi, Franco, and Olga who have embraced the challenge of producing their wines personally from vineyard to cellar, on their 1,300-foot vineyards of volcanic deposits and limestone in the heart of the Taurasi district.
The grapes are harvested only at full phenological ripeness — the Addimanda family's commitment to waiting for the right moment, regardless of external pressures or convenient timing, is one of the principles that defines their approach. After transportation to the cellar, selection, destemming, crushing, and extended maceration, malolactic transformation follows, along with ageing in French oak barriques and tonneaux for twelve to eighteen months, depending on the vintage. The wine then rests in bottle before release.
The Taurasi DOCG designation is one of Italy's most prestigious and most demanding red wine appellations — requiring extended ageing and producing wines of extraordinary depth and longevity from the Aglianico grape on the volcanic and limestone soils of the Taurasi district. The Addimanda family's permanent grassing of their vineyards — which encourages the living organisms that create the particular micro- and macro-organisms that become the precursors of the flavours and aromas first in the grapes and then in the wines — is a commitment to the biological richness of their specific terroir that expresses itself directly in the wine's complexity.
Ruby red in colour, the wine offers hints of complex red fruits and spicy notes on the nose — the characteristic aromatic profile of well-made Taurasi in its developing stage. The palate is soft with great concentration and well-ripened tannins, making each sip pleasant despite the wine's evident structural ambition. The elegant and persistent finish is the final argument of a wine of genuine distinction.
