The Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Riserva of Corte dei Venti represents the estate's most ambitious and most patient production — a wine of great balance between acidity and mellowness with an extraordinary tannin structure that the extended ageing in large Slavonian oak barrels develops over forty-two to forty-eight months before bottle ageing of a further six to twelve months.

The Riserva designation within the Brunello di Montalcino appellation requires an additional year of ageing beyond the standard DOCG requirements — a period that, in the hands of a producer committed to the large-format traditional barrel philosophy of Corte dei Venti, produces a wine of qualitatively different depth and complexity from the already serious standard Brunello. Where the standard DOCG already demonstrates exceptional intensity, the Riserva adds a layer of integration, softness, and aromatic complexity that the additional months in Slavonian oak reliably impart.

The Sangiovese Grosso grape of Montalcino — one of the great indigenous Italian varieties, capable of producing wines of extraordinary longevity and development — is at its most complete expression in the Riserva format. The acidity that is one of the variety's most defining characteristics is balanced here against the mellowness that extended ageing develops, while the tannin structure — extraordinary by the estate's own assessment — has been refined by those additional months of slow oxidative development in the large barrels without losing its formative presence.

This is a wine for the most important occasions and the most patient collectors — one that repays decades of cellaring with a development that few Italian reds can match. The pinch of madness that Corte dei Venti mentions in its estate description is most evident here: the commitment to forty-two to forty-eight months in barrel is not conventional even within Montalcino's demanding tradition.
