The Brunello di Montalcino DOCG of Corte dei Venti is born from a small vineyard, large oak barrels, a long tradition, a pinch of madness, and a great deal of passion — the estate's own description, and one that captures both the character of the wine and the philosophy of the people who make it. This is Brunello produced and aged entirely in the estate's own cellar, where the commitment to the traditional large-format Slavonian oak barrel that defines classical Montalcino winemaking is maintained with full conviction.
The wine matures for thirty-six months in Slavonian oak barrels of twenty to twenty-five hectolitres — the large format that is central to the traditional Brunello style, allowing slow, gentle oxidative development without the aggressive tannin extraction that smaller barrels would impose. At least eight further months in bottle follow before release, ensuring that the wine arrives in a state of genuine integration rather than raw power.
The Brunello di Montalcino DOCG is one of Italy's most prestigious and most age-worthy red wine designations — built entirely on the Sangiovese Grosso grape on the volcanic and clay soils of the Montalcino hilltop territory south of Siena. Corte dei Venti's expression of this designation reflects the estate's commitment to the traditional style: the wine is of exceptional intensity of flavour, with the fullness and roundness in the mouth going with freshness and structure. It is enveloping, with a depth that rewards patience.
For those approaching Brunello for the first time through this wine, it offers an introduction to what the designation means at its most classical. For those already acquainted with the category, it offers a confirmation that the traditional approach — large barrels, long ageing, Sangiovese Grosso — remains the most complete and most satisfying expression of Montalcino.
