Luogo d'Agosto — Place of August — is the most technically demanding and most exclusive white wine in the Brandolini Winery portfolio: a 100% Pinot Noir vinified white, produced exclusively in favourable vintages and only from grapes collected in eighteen-kilogram boxes with only the first pressing kept. This Blanc de Noir approach — white wine from a red grape — requires the particular skill of pressing the Pinot Noir grapes with extreme gentleness before the skin colour migrates into the must, a technique that produces a wine of copper-tinged yellow colour rather than the pale straw of conventionally produced whites.
The name is both a seasonal reference and an agricultural observation: August is the month of the Pinot Noir grape's final maturation stage in the Oltrepò Pavese, when the summer heat and the vine's accumulated energy produce the specific aromatic development that makes the best Pinot Noir whites possible. The Luogo d'Agosto is a wine of a specific place and a specific season — the Brandolini family's oldest and most valued Pinot Noir parcel, harvested in August when conditions align perfectly.
Produced only in favourable vintages — not every year qualifies — Luogo d'Agosto carries the additional rarity of selective production. The wine remains on its fine lees until the time of draft, developing the autolytic complexity and the textural richness that extended lees contact imparts without the intervention of batonnage or barrel ageing. Yellow with a coppery tint; the nose is intense with hints of peach, balsamic herbs, and star anise — an aromatic profile of unusual breadth and Mediterranean specificity.
Balanced on the palate with good acidity, flavour, and persistence — the three palatal qualities that the lees ageing and the specific variety contribute to a wine of genuine distinction.
