Brezza di Luna — Moonlight Breeze — is the still white expression of Aljano's Spergola vine — one of the purest and most uncompromised tastes coming from original roots never attacked by phylloxera. This is a claim of exceptional historical significance: while virtually all the world's vineyards were replanted on phylloxera-resistant American rootstocks after the devastating epidemic of the late nineteenth century, the Spergola vine at Aljano maintains its original, ungrafted roots — preserving a direct genetic and physiological connection to the pre-phylloxera vine that most of the world's viticulture has permanently lost.
Aljano's production philosophy is one of complete organic commitment — no synthetic chemicals in either vineyard or winery, using only natural products and techniques with the very lowest quantities of sulphites. This approach honours the pre-phylloxera integrity of the Spergola vine by surrounding its ancient roots with the cleanest possible agricultural environment, allowing the vine to express what it has preserved from the centuries before the epidemic changed viticulture permanently.
The Spergola grape is indigenous to the Emilia region — a white variety of considerable aromatic character that the Aljano estate has maintained in the context of its broader organic farming system, which encompasses both the Spergola and indigenous Lambrusco varieties alongside Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Its aromatic profile is fragrant and direct, its structure fresh and mineral, its overall character — in the estate's own words — such that your cellar will not be the same again after you own it.
Brezza di Luna is the wine through which the Spergola grape speaks most directly and most purely — without the effervescence of the Fior d'Aljano sparkling expression, in the still form that allows the variety's full aromatic character to be encountered without mediation. A wine of genuine rarity and genuine distinction.
