Italy's second smallest region produces, through Tenute Martarosa, wines of character that deserve far wider recognition. The Tintilia — Molise's identity grape — is the estate's flagship; Fiano del Molise, Due Versure Bianco, and Due Versure Rosso complete a range of four wines rooted in the region's indigenous varieties and honest agricultural tradition. Molise at its most expressive. Available through UniqueWines.
Saving the Tintilia grape from extinction. This ancient Molisan variety was nearly lost before estates like Martarosa championed its revival.
Clay and limestone soils at 500-700m altitude in the Molise Apennines, with a continental climate that gives the wines freshness and longevity.
Molise is Italy's second smallest region, and among its least known in the international wine market. Tenute Martarosa is engaged in the task of changing that — through the valorisation of identity and Molise's finest raw materials as offered by nature, with the utmost attention to environment and territory. Michele and Pierluigi Travaglini — who live by passion for wine as a natural continuation of decades of viticulture — have established the estate as the definitive voice of Molise's indigenous varieties.
The estate's signature variety is Tintilia — a grape that means the world to the Molise region: identity, culture, and world-class tastes. Tintilia 100% is aged in steel and 500-litre oak barrels of the first and second fill, spending at least twelve months in the bottle before release. Ruby red with garnet reflections, the true essence of the wine is balance: fruit and spice, structure and fragrance in harmonious proportion.
FIANO DEL MOLISE is the estate's white counterpart — 100% Fiano, refined with its own lees for at least six months, then spending at least three months in bottle before release. It carries notes of white flowers, white peach, and sage, expressing freshness, balance, and minerality. A white that speaks quietly but convincingly of Molise's capacity for serious viticulture.
DUE VERSURE BIANCO is a blend of Malvasia, Trebbiano, and Fiano — fresh and flowing, with immense notes of white flowers, white fruit, and citrus. Aged in stainless steel, it is a balanced and sincere wine: a charming companion for any moment of conviviality and friendship, a guide to hedonism and to toasting the pleasures of life.
DUE VERSURE ROSSO is the estate's Montepulciano — 100% of the most popular grape in the region. Full, round, fresh, and fruity in taste; its scent reminiscent of flowers macerated in alcohol and cinchona; its taste of cherry, plum, and red fruits. A wine that recalls, in the estate's own poetic words, a game of cards, fireplaces lit, the boards laid — a collection of customs and traditions handed down over time.
Tenute Martarosa represents Molise's most compelling argument for attention. Available through UniqueWines.
