Montetondo produces six wines from Veneto's three greatest appellations — Soave, Valpolicella, and Amarone — alongside Pinot Grigio and pure Corvina, in a portfolio designed for the American market. The Amarone ages thirty months in barrique; the grapes lose forty percent of weight in drying. Classic Veneto at its most complete. Amarone. Valpolicella. Soave. Available through UniqueWines.
Request a quoteFrom the heart of Veneto, Montetondo produces a special line of wines designed specifically for the American market — spanning the three greatest Veneto wine traditions: Amarone, Valpolicella, and Soave. The estate works with the classic varieties of each appellation — Garganega for Soave, Corvina, Rondinella, and Molinara for Valpolicella and Amarone — as well as international varieties Pinot Grigio and 100% Corvina for additional expressions.
SOAVE is the estate's Garganega expression — 100% of the grape that defines the Soave appellation. Garganega is described as versatile and great for producing many different styles of Soave, from the traditional still version to sweet dessert wines. In Soave it has found the best conditions to grow — and Montetondo's expression showcases this versatility with elegance.
VALPOLICELLA is the estate's blend of Corvina, Rondinella, and Molinara — the classic grape combination that defines the Valpolicella appellation. Aged in barrique and tonneaux for six months, then in bottle for a minimum of four months. Ruby red verging on purple; complex nose of violets, roses, cherries, and sour black cherries with a hint of spices; well-balanced with a light, smooth, slightly tannic finish.
AMARONE DOCG is the appellation's greatest expression — aged in barrique for approximately thirty months, then in bottle for a minimum of ten months. Imposing red; deep ruby red verging on garnet; intense fruity bouquet of cherry and dried plum with floral aromas of dried flowers and sweet spices; smooth and captivating in the mouth; extremely elegant full-body and long finish. The grapes are dried in graticci and plastic boxes of five kilograms each, losing forty percent of production through evaporation of water and concentration of sugar.
RIPASSO is the estate's Valpolicella re-fermented on dried Amarone grape skins — six days pressing and maceration, followed by secondary fermentation of eight to twelve days at 20-25 degrees, adding body, colour, and alcohol. Ages eighteen months in barrels and eight months in bottle. The PINOT GRIGIO is the estate's 100% varietal white — straw yellow with green hues, fermented at 16-18 degrees for approximately ten days, with pear, wildflowers, and a slight bread-crust note. The CORVINA is the estate's 100% Corvina red — fresh cherry, blackberry, and black pepper hints; medium-bodied with moderate acidity. Available through UniqueWines.
