Three hectares on the Monte Deserto hill in the heart of the Castelli di Jesi classic zone. Since 1973 the Socci family has treated viticulture as a team sport between winemaker and vine — producing five wines that range from the structured Martina to the sparkling Deserto, Bianca, Così è, and PeterLuis, each a precise expression of Verdicchio's many personalities. Boutique. Family. Since 1973. Available through UniqueWines.
identity and awareness; everything from vineyard to glass
The Socci family believes in the value of the land and believes in the value of their vine of choice — the Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi — knowing that with the vine, they must be a team. Monte Deserto is the name of the hill on which their small vineyard is located: three hectares of vigna in the centre of the classic area of production of Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi, for a boutique winery of excellence. Since 1973 they have been persistent and resistant, carrying on the passion of their family.
Identity and awareness have always guided them: everything comes from the vineyard, goes through the cellar, and ends up — only if it is what the winemaker wanted to achieve — in a glass of wine. This is a philosophy of quality control as personal commitment rather than regulatory compliance, and it produces wines of a coherence and integrity that boutique production alone can achieve.
MARTINA is the estate's Verdicchio gentile — the harmonious and light part of the vine. A must-to-flower pressing followed by cooling of the musts before a slight maceration on the skins. Then almost ten months on fine lees with programmed batonnage and a hint of sulphites — what characterises its winemaking and gives it the task of amazing with the passage of time. Martina has the rich grapes, greater complexity, and plays its trump card to the palate: structure, persistence, and envelopment. It is the estate's champion, responsible for telling the story of the winery.
DESERTO is for the Socci family tradition and territory. A lightning of the vineyard concentrates only on selected grapes deliberately harvested at the end of the harvest — the last and most concentrated fruit. The approach adopts the Vinooxygen process, vinifying in the absence of oxygen and without decanting, for a wine that tells the territory through refermentation in bottle before the yeasts can impose themselves on the typical traits of the vine. Salt, limestone, Verdicchio: sparkling and authentic.
BIANCA is a Verdicchio Doc with body and character — produced with a quick stop on the yeasts and early disgorgement to tell the territory through refermentation in bottle. The soil is talking: a calcareous marl with an important clay component, its lively acidic vein and a present saline note. When dictating rules is only the personal taste of the winemaker, a creation comes out that represents his own wine — just for the pleasure of tasting it.
COSI E' (Metodo Classico Extra-Brut) and PETERLUIS (Metodo Classico Brut 18 mesi) complete the range with sparkling expressions from Verdicchio — a classic method as elegant as it is versatile, accommodating at the table as it is impertinent to taste. Character is the whole of the vine from which it comes and the hand of those who have shaped it. Available through UniqueWines.
