Here, where the air is clean and the soil is virgin, the Luis Estate has chosen to grow PIWI vines — varieties resistant to cold and disease, allowing the production of fine wines by drastically reducing or completely eliminating the use of treatments harmful to people and the ecosystem. This is only a fragment of a larger tale.

Luis Estate houses approximately five thousand vines — a rather limited quantity that allows the estate to understand the needs of each vine during winter cutting and all other vineyard processes, from pruning to positioning the shoots. There are undoubted parallels with human care: a healthy vine has a superior capacity to a weaker one; for this reason, the estate believes in the individual treatment of each vine.

As in the vineyard, as little intervention as possible takes place in the cellar — to create wines of character, with their own personality and high longevity. The wines are filtered only once, just before bottling, and clarification is forgone where possible. All steps from viticulture to the labelled bottle are handmade — hence production is one hundred percent artisanal.

MEZÀN is the estate's white PIWI wine — described as a white with the soul of a red. Structured, complete, and with great personality, Mezàn amazes with its complexity and quality consistency over time. A sunny soul opens at first glance in its straw yellow dress with amber reflections. A fresh and pronounced scent of quince, acacia flowers, custard, and slight citrus notes blends with sensations of white peach juice. Initial freshness combined with vibrant mineral flavour; full and enveloping body with notes of almond, peach, and custard. Alcohol perfectly balanced with delicate spices, giving a persistent finish.

ROT is a blend of Schiava and Lagrein — fruity and drinkable with both the typical almond note and aromas of lilac, cherry, and strawberry. In the mouth one feels the tannin and, thanks to a small part of Lagrein, it has a nice structure suited to Mediterranean appetizers and second courses of lamb, rabbit, or feathered game.

ROSÉ is the estate's summer wine — fruity notes of strawberry and raspberry with pleasant acidity, ideal as an accompaniment to light meals. LAGREIN is the estate's flagship red — wild, one of a kind, with a strong and distinctive character. Raspberry and liquorice alongside cherry, dark chocolate, and plum; a year of ageing in barriques makes the tannins rounder and this gritty wine more accessible. Due to its body, tannic structure, and acidity, the recommended combination is aged hard cheeses, meat and game dishes. Available through UniqueWines.
