Laboris Catrame

Between Vesuvius and Roccamonfina, on soils of volcanic and alluvial origin that alternate tufa, sandstone, and clay, Laboris Catrame produces two wines in individually numbered limited editions: the Fiore Clastico (Pallagrello Bianco + Falanghina, 2,093 bottles) and the Argilla Madre (Casavecchia + Sangiovese, 1,494 bottles). Wholly handmade. Entirely ethical. Genuinely rare. Each bottle is numbered on the label. Each wine is a living expression of a specific vineyard plot on the Campanian amphitheatre floor. Limited edition. Individually numbered. Available through UniqueWines.

Castel Campagnano is a small village on a plateau a few kilometres from the Palace of Caserta — a piece of land that looks towards the Matese and Monte Taburno, mountains that separate Upper Campania from Molise and Sannio. To the north-west, the volcano of Roccamonfina; to the south-east, Vesuvius. In the middle: a vast natural amphitheatre whose soils of volcanic and alluvial origin produce, through a rhythmic alternation of tufa, sandy banks, clastic rocks, sandstone, and clay, wines of unusual complexity and geological depth.

Laboris Catrame was born from this specific landscape and from a very specific philosophical commitment: a rare combination of native varieties with unique characteristics, produced through ethical and sustainable practices, in limited editions that are numbered individually on the label tab. These are not wines made for volume. They are wines made for precision — handmade products that aim at high quality from the first step of production to the last.

FIORE CLASTICO — the flower of grapes grown among sandstone and beautiful clastic stones of the Ventaglio vineyard — is a blend of 85% white Pallagrello and 15% Falanghina, produced in limited edition of 2,093 individually numbered bottles. The vinification takes place in whole clusters, preserving the green reflections that characterise this wine's brilliant, clear appearance. On the nose, intense aromatic molecules deliver a complex range of small white flowers — lime and broom — with pleasant citrus sensations. On the palate, the wine is harmonious, savoury, and persistent, with the right balance between acidity and sweetness given by ageing on fine lees.

ARGILLA MADRE — born from the clays of the Volturno vineyard, overlooking the meeting of the rivers Volturno and Calore Irpino — is a blend of 85% Casavecchia and 15% Sangiovese, also produced in limited edition of 1,494 individually numbered bottles. It is described by the estate as a living wine: perfect and imperfect, enveloping and warm, dry and rough but soft in its evolution. Clear and intense with violet reflections, its signature is the Casavecchia vine on clay — typical notes of violet and small field flowers, accompanied by light spicy hints and red fruit. The label itself — representing red clay, warming and tarnishing a metallic surface — is a design of unusual sophistication, its grooves and streaks underlining the imperfection of the material and the continuous evolution of wine.

Laboris Catrame is among the most unusual and considered estates in the UniqueWines portfolio — wines whose limited edition status and numbered bottles reflect a genuine commitment to artisanal production rather than a marketing convention. Available in very limited quantities.
