Fontefico is a biodynamic farm that cultivates indigenous vines exclusively. The estate faces the seaside and the Gulf of Vasto in the Abruzzo region, where vines of famous varieties — Pecorino, Trebbiano, and Montepulciano — are constantly and strongly struck by the massive wind and breeze of the Adriatic Sea. Fontefico wines excel in great sapidity and minerality as a direct result of this marine exposure.

Each vine has its own dedicated and distant vineyard sector within the estate, aiming at protecting obsessively the identity of each individual variety. This is viticulture of deliberate separation rather than blending — a commitment to understanding each grape on its own terms before making any decision about production. The estate's favourite wine is the Pecorino Superiore — a grape notoriously with a badass attitude hard to discipline, yet one that gives in the end a superlative wine that has risen to international acknowledgement.

Fontefico wines are the product of a biodynamic philosophy applied with full conviction: no synthetic inputs, full respect for natural cycles, and a belief that the best expression of Abruzzo's indigenous varieties comes from the least possible intervention in the vineyard and the cellar. The artworks that the estate places on its labels add an artistic accent to the art of winemaking — a visual statement of a producer who takes every dimension of their work seriously.

The Pecorino Superiore is the estate's calling card — internationally recognised, structurally ambitious, and carrying the full mineral force of the Gulf of Vasto's Adriatic exposure. The Trebbiano and Montepulciano complete a portfolio of three wines that collectively demonstrate what biodynamic cultivation of indigenous varieties can achieve on Abruzzo's coastal hills.

Fontefico is available through UniqueWines — a biodynamic estate of rare integrity, producing wines that reward careful attention and patient cellaring.
