Four generations of the Fappiano family have made wine in the Sannio — from Antonio to Mario, with the same passion and visceral love for their land. Their estate produces the full range of the Sannio's indigenous varieties: Falanghina (Tre Bicchieri recognised), Fiano, Camaiola, and Aglianico — each expressing the hydro-geological richness and viticultural tradition of one of Campania's most compelling appellations. The Fons 1890 Falanghina is among the finest expressions of that variety in Italy. The Cimaluna Camaiola and Mename Fiano complete a range of rare coherence and quality. Four generations. One Sannio. Available through UniqueWines.
Request a quoteThe wine business has been in the Fappiano family's history since four generations of winegrowers — from Antonio, who initiated this adventure, to Mario today, who continues the production of quality wines with the same passion and visceral love for their land. The Sannio — with its lands and altitudes rich in hydro-geological resources and its history of resourceful men — has been their home and their subject for a century of winemaking.
The Fappiano estate works with the classic varieties of the Sannio appellation: Falanghina del Sannio, Fiano del Sannio, Aglianico, and the indigenous Camaiola — each handled with the generational expertise of a family that has learned these varieties through lived experience rather than academic study. Their wines express the dual character of the Sannio: the freshness and mineral definition of the whites, the structure and warmth of the reds.
FONS 1890 is the estate's flagship Falanghina — a wine that takes its name from a source (fons in Latin) and its number from the year the family's agricultural history begins. Thanks to its long ageing on fine lees, it denotes complexity, structure, and longevity without losing the fragrance of the fruit and ease of drinking that make Falanghina one of Campania's most beloved whites. Intense scent with hints of coffee, spice, black pepper, vanilla, and pomegranate; a persistent, structured, fresh taste with ripe tannins. The Fappiano Falanghina has achieved the coveted Tre Bicchieri recognition — golden in colour, with tones of dried herbs and spices, cedar peel, and a touch of mineral and iodine. In the mouth it has good fullness with a lively saline trail that stretches across a long aromatic finish. A wine that speaks unambiguously of the Sannio.
CIMALUNA is the estate's Camaiola — and it enters immediately among one's favourites in its price range. Delicious and crunchy fruit with hints of caramel, chocolate, and liquorice; juicy acidity and velvety tannins catapult it to the first rank of this indigenous variety's expressions. Ideal with rich first courses, red meats, braised preparations, game, and semi-aged cheeses.
MENAME is the estate's Fiano del Sannio white — a wine that winks at the white French in its structure, complexity, and taste. Intense and fresh with notes of pear, orange peel, and a touch of butter. Straw yellow with greenish reflections, it denotes structure, flavour, and a lasting freshness from its long ageing on fine lees — a white of genuine sophistication that finds its best expression alongside fish dishes, fried Italian preparations, fresh cheeses, and pizza.
The estate's Aglianico completes a range of wines that collectively represent the breadth of the Sannio's indigenous variety portfolio — from the mineral freshness of Falanghina to the structured warmth of Aglianico, with Camaiola and Fiano as compelling arguments for the Sannio's claim to serious viticultural status.
