Since 1905, the Lulli family has made wine in Cori with the conviction that Rome's ancient viticultural tradition deserves serious expression. Their four wines are built on grapes of genuine historical significance — Bellone, Nerobuono, and Malvasia — varieties that enriched Roman Empire wines and that only grow properly in these specific Lazio hills. Rare varieties. Roman history. Available through UniqueWines.
Request a quoteThe wine history of Rome extends back to antiquity, but Cantine Lulli brings it into the present with full awareness of the tradition they carry. Founded in 1905, the estate has grown in Cori — a town in the Lazio hills south of Rome — while developing wines from rare vines that only grow in the hills of their specific territory. Organisation, coordination, harmony, and timing combined with successful projects: this family grew among the vineyards and learned to put passion and wisdom into field work.
Their production is based on an intelligent design into winemaking — experience in wine science combined with an ancient art of making exclusive wines from rare vines. Ideas, creation, and originality are their guiding principles. The grapes used — Bellone, Nerobuono, and Malvasia — are varieties of genuine historical significance to the winemaking tradition of Rome, and the estate's commitment to them is both a commercial decision and a cultural one.
BELLONE — a white from the Bellone grape — roots clearly in Roman history, as such grapes were added to enrich wines produced throughout the Roman Empire. Hand-picked and selected, processed by separating must and skins for a slower maceration, with extremely soft pressing that grants full respect for the original characteristics of this precious grape, and fermentation at controlled low temperature. Straw-yellow in colour, its perfumes are intense and extremely charming — a favourite among women sommeliers. Essences of orange blossom, jasmine, and salty winds make a complex bouquet of unparalleled charm. Good acidity, gentle minerality, and extremely pleasant sapidity on the palate.
DARDANO is the estate's red — an incredibly original wine and a rare production in the oenological background of Italy, bringing back glory to the winemaking traditions of Rome. Nerobuono (70% minimum) combines with minimal quantities of Sangiovese and Merlot to enrich an ancient traditional production from the Lazio region. After a slow maceration process, grapes are very softly pressed. A fine bouquet opens elegant scents to the nose with shadows of black pepper and red peppers. The flavour is intense with a background of red fruits — cherries, red ribes, visciola — and liquorice, with an essence of eucalyptus, closing with echoes of juniper and cinnamon.
PAIOLANA is the estate's Malvasia white — a very light yellow with a corolla tending towards white. A direct floral nose marked by wild daisies; Malvasia offers a sweet and soothing aroma with gentle spices. Instantly genuine and non-structured on the palate with a soothing flavour. Good acidity tending towards dry. Designed for white sauce dishes, rice, seafood, meats, cheeses, and fish.
CERVIGNARA is the estate's premium Bellone — aged twelve months in acacia barrels, producing a semi-aromatic wine of exuberance, sensuality, and structure. Vivacious and feminine with fruity notes of pear, apple, white mulberry, set in turmeric and sage. Fascinating: pure sensuality. Available through UniqueWines.
