Cantina Tagliafierro

In Tramonti — a town of thirteen hamlets on the Amalfi Coast, each with its own microclimate and terracing — Cantina Tagliafierro cultivates indigenous varieties found nowhere else in the world: Pepella, Ginestra, Tintore, Piedirosso. Wine made where the sea, wind, salt, and volcanic soil argue and reconcile beneath the Mediterranean sun. Four wines of rare distinction: the Tredici white, the Tramelios rosé, the Tramunte red, and the Thesauri pink — each an unrepeatable expression of a landscape more famous for its beauty than for its wine, and deserving of recognition for both. The Amalfi Coast in a glass. Available through UniqueWines.

The Amalfi Coast is one of the most visually celebrated landscapes in the world. What is less commonly understood is that it is also one of the most dramatically challenging wine territories in Italy — a place where growing vines means working on terraces held up by dry-stone walls, facing the challenge of the sea, the wind, and the salt, which strike the mountain's inner aquifer in constant, productive tension.

Cantina Tagliafierro was born in exactly this landscape: a hillside cove of the Amalfi Coast where viticulture unfolds across terraces that preserve an ancient agricultural memory. In Tramonti — a town composed of thirteen separate hamlets, each with its own microclimate and its own terracing — the estate cultivates the area's historic indigenous varieties with attention to agricultural continuity and territorial coherence, favouring expressive precision and respect for each variety's original character.

The indigenous varieties of Tramonti are genuinely singular: Pepella and Ginestra for the whites, Tintore and Piedirosso for the reds and rosés. These are not varieties one encounters in the mainstream Italian wine market — they are the specific agricultural inheritance of this coastal mountain territory, shaped over centuries by the interaction of sea, salt, wind, elevation, and volcanic soil, and capable of producing wines of a character that is, in the most literal sense, unreplicable elsewhere.

TREDICI — the name recalling the thirteen hamlets of Tramonti — is the estate's flagship white: a blend of Pepella and Ginestra, the two native varieties that give it a bright floral nose and an intense mouthful of loquat and raspberry, refined with Falanghina (now considered native after seventy years in the vineyard), which defines the wine's structure and length on the palate. It brings together the variety of soils and the lightness and savouriness typical of higher elevations. It is a tribute to the winegrowing and cultural richness of this territory.

TRAMELIOS is a rosé of structured grace from a blend of Piedirosso and Tintore. Its name holds a family's love — the strength of its roots and the promise of the future. Mineral, fragrant, and engaging, from volcanic soils. The nose is floral, with notes of daisy and sun-warmed broom, long and voluptuous, settling into mineral whiffs of wet rock and salt converging into an ethereal suggestion of petrol. Spectacular with any fish dish.

TRAMUNTE is the estate's red — from Tintore grapes native to the Amalfi Coast, blended with Piedirosso — yielding a very rich mouthful with moderate tannins modulated by freshness. Fruit and flower intertwine in a genesis of sour cherry and pure pout, mixed with wet bark and red berries. In every sip lies the volcanic power of the territory and the passion of those who work the vineyards with dedication.

THESAURI — from the Latin for guarded treasure — is the estate's rosé: an elegant and subtle expression of Tramonti's red-wine tradition in pink form, from native varieties with a mineral fragrance, a harmony of body and lightness, a shade of passion, and a Mediterranean whisper. Immediate notes of strawberry, pomegranate, and cherry, followed by delicate hints of white mulberry and red-berry jelly. Refreshing, savoury, with excellent drinkability.

Cantina Tagliafierro is among the most distinctive estates in the UniqueWines portfolio — wines from a landscape so specific that their character cannot be imitated, only experienced.
